Olivetti by Allie Millington
A fun, charming tale of a troubled boy and a talkative typewriter. I enjoyed the story and the alternation between the kid’s and the typewriter’s perspectives. Plus it’s from a local (Atlanta area) author; I like that.
This is definitely a story aimed at kids, probably middle school age or so. I didn’t realize this fact when I first requested the book from the library. Once I did, I decided to read it anyway – I read plenty of books in middle school that I’d be happy revisit as an adult. I’m glad I pressed forward because it was a fun read despite lacking the depth of a typical adult novel.
Also, this book made me want a typewriter. I’ve admired typewriters for quite a while, and if it weren’t for my strange typing habits, I might have one by now. Sure, they’re not as widely useful as a computer, but there’s something attractive about a high-quality, single-purpose device.
