Bored and Brilliant by Manoush Zomorodi

Yet another book on reducing the influence of technology in our lives – it’s probably becoming obvious that I like this topic. Zomorodi explores various ways in which tech (particularly the smartphone) has a negative effect on our lives and provides ideas we can use to regain control. I prefer Cal Newport’s more extreme approach, but I’d guess that most people would find Bored and Brilliant to be a better place to start.

Although I didn’t find a ton of new ideas in this book, it still got me thinking and motivated me to continue tweaking my relationship with tech. The biggest change is that I’ve started carrying my phone (and wallet, notebook, etc.) in a small bag rather than keeping it in my pocket. As a result, I’m reflexively checking my phone much less often.
